The family of JP McManus has purchased the oldest public house in Adare, which used to be a popular spot for locals.

Located on the Rathkeale Road, the 19th-century Sean Collins & Sons pub closed in 2024, having been family-run for approximately 70 years.

It is understood renovations are under way in the bar, after it was bought by the McManus family.

The former bar was known for hosting trad music sessions and will undergo renovations ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup in Adare.

The renovations are being carried out by Paul Leonard Construction.

While a new name has not been disclosed for the establishment, it is also expected to contain apartments above the pub.

The Ryder Cup will take place in Adare Manor from September 13 to 19, and excitement has been building in the village over a year out from the global event.

As tourists flock to Adare, many are already asking about the Ryder Cup, while business owners have been in regular contact with tournament organisers as they prepare for 2027.

A new logo has been provided to local business owners, one available for licensing as they are not allowed to use the official branding.

Instead, they will be using a Ready for 2027 logo, created in partnership with Ryder Cup Europe. It is the first time they are collaborating with locals on an exclusive branding.

Meanwhile, Limerick City and County Council unveiled its own strategic marketing initiative earlier this year in the form of Golf Limerick, an initiative designed to position Limerick as a premier international golf destination ahead of the Ryder Cup.
