Over 40 e-scooters, electric bikes and scramblers have been seized by gardaí as part of a two-day action operation in Limerick.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, gardaí from the Roads Policing Unit and Community Policing used dynamometers to test e-scooters and find which complied with legislation.

Gardaí say this gave their members "an effective means of identifying vehicles that were being used in breach of applicable legislation".

Over the course of the two days of Operation Meacán, over 40 e-scooters, electric bikes and scramblers were seized.

Additionally, a number of properties were also searched with high-visibility patrols being carried out across the city.

"These activities were designed not only to identify and enforce road traffic offences but also to deter and disrupt the use of these vehicles in connection with criminal activity," a garda spokesperson said.

"Investigations are ongoing," the spokesperson added.
