The warning — which comes into effect at 7pm on Monday evening and will remain in place until 6am on Tuesday morning — comes with predictions of "very strong and gusty winds" while the warning remains.

The forecaster has warned of fallen branches, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions as a result of heavy rainfall.

Monday is expected to be a "windy night, especially over the western half of the country, with scattered outbreaks of rain", the forecaster warns.

Temperatures are expected to drop with lowest temperatures of -1C to 4C predicted.
