Some 558 patients are without beds in hospitals across the country this morning, with almost a fifth of this number waiting at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) alone.

According to the latest trolley figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), there were 112 patients without beds at UHL as of 8am this morning — 46 in the emergency department (ED) and 66 on other wards.

University Hospital Galway registered the second-highest total, with 57 patients without a bed — 46 at its ED and 11 elsewhere in the hospital.

At St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, there were 52 patients on trolleys at its ED. The INMO said the hospital was not in a position to provide a figure for the total number of patients waiting in other wards.

A total of 40 patients were waiting on trolleys at St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny — 19 at its ED and 21 on other wards. There were 32 patients also waiting on trolleys in the ED of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, while at Cork University Hospital, 23 patients were waiting on a bed — 19 in the hospital's ED and 4 elsewhere in the hospital.

Nationally, just six hospitals recorded no patients without a bed this morning: Beaumont Hospital; Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar; Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore; Nenagh General Hospital; Our Lady's Hospital, Navan; and University Hospital Waterford.
