A recall has been issued for specific batches of fish sold by K O'Connell Fishmongers due to the presence of listeria.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued the warning for batches of smoked salmon sold by the fishmonger on Thursday.
The fishmonger has locations at Cork's English Market and at Dunnes Stores in Bishopstown.
Listeria monocytogenes were found in the batches by the FSAI, with the public now urged not to consume the salmon involved.
The affected batches are:
- SS30523 - 150g, 375g, 500g and 1kg - with a use by date of the 25/11/2023
- SS31323 - 150g, 375g, 500g and 1kg - with a use by date of the 1/12/2023
Symptoms of listeria monocytogenes infection can include:
- flu-like symptoms
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.
