A thunderstorm warning has been issued for several counties, with Met Éireann forecasting heavy downpours and lightning.
The status yellow thunderstorm warning came into effect shortly after 5am this morning and will remain in place until 9am.
The warning is in place for Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
The forecaster has warned of heavy downpours and lightning, but also warned of potential spot flooding, difficult travelling conditions, lightning strikes and poor visibility.
Meanwhile, another yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for Antrim, Armargh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.
The second warning is in place until 9pm this evening.
Today has been mostly cloudy and rather misty, with some scattered outbreaks of showery rain and drizzle in places, and with some heavy thundery downpours for a time this morning.
The day will brighten up with some sunny spells gradually developing, along with further showers, some heavy.
According to the forecaster, there's a chance of more thunderstorms into the afternoon too, with these most likely over parts of Ulster and Leinster. Humid conditions will continue with highest temperatures of 18C to 23C or 24C.
Wednesday will be rather windy, and it'll be fresher than recently.
It will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting much of Ulster, and mainly north Connacht and north Leinster, accompanied by fresh to strong and occasionally gusty westerly winds, reaching near gale or gale force in northwestern coastal parts.
Highest temperatures will range from 14C in the northwest, up to 19C or 20C in the southeast.
