Numerous roads in Cork City have been closed as a result of flooding due to heavy rain showers.
Wandesford Quay has been hit badly, with the city council closing the road.
One lane eastbound on Lavitt's Quay is also closed due to flooding on Friday evening.
Earlier on Friday, the council had issued a statement warning road users to give themselves extra time to complete their journeys, as the popular Cork Jazz weekend was to coincide with the high astronomical tides, giving rise to flooding.
Flooding is expected along low-lying quays during peak high tides times over the next two days.
The affected areas are:
- South Terrace;
- Union Quay;
- Morrisons’ Island;
- Wandesford Quay;
- Lavitt’s Quay;
- South Mall.
The warning came just hours before Met Éireann issued a status yellow rain warning for four counties.
Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow will be under the warning from 5pm on Saturday until 4am on Sunday. It reads:
The warning comes a week after disastrous flooding affected a number of homes in parts of East Cork.
Saturday should see "another day of sunny spells and showers", again bringing the possibility of thunderstorms coupled with spot flooding.
As the Jazz weekend draws to a close, Sunday promises a "cloudy and wet" morning, before the rain clears, giving rise to sunny spells coupled with showers.
Sunday night promises a mix of "clear spells and scattered showers overnight with fog developing in many areas".
