Teenage cyclist dies following hit-and-run involving van in Meath
A cyclist in his late teens has died following a hit and run in Co Meath on Tuesday evening.
A cyclist in his late teens has died following a hit and run in Co Meath on Tuesday evening.
The incident, which involved a van and a bicycle at Nugentstown, Kells, happened shortly after 8pm.
The van failed to remain at the scene.
The cyclist, a man in his late teens, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has since been taken to the mortuary at Our Lady's Hospital Navan, where an autopsy will take place in due course.
The coroner has also been notified.
The road remains closed and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
Anyone who may have been travelling in the area of Nugentstown, Kells, Co Meath, on Tuesday August 25 between 7.30pm and 8.30pm, and who may have camera footage, including dash cam or mobile phone recordings, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
