Man in his 20s seriously injured in N71 crash in West Cork

The driver was taken to Cork University Hospital following the late-night collision, while his passenger has since been discharged

A man in his 20s has been seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on the N71 in West Cork, while a second man was also taken to hospital.

The crash happened at approximately 10.50pm on Thursday, October 8, at Ahalisky, Ballinascarthy, near Clonakilty, as the vehicle was travelling from Bandon towards Ballinascarthy.

The driver, who is in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cork University Hospital.

A male passenger, also in his 20s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital. He has since been discharged.

Garda appeal 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are asking motorists who were travelling in the area between 10.30pm and 11pm on Thursday to come forward.

Anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from the Ahalisky and Ballinascarthy area during that period is asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
