It has been a slow start to the day for commuters in many parts of the country, but there is a promise of sunshine for many by the time it comes for the return journey

In Cork, traffic is slow between the Ballinrea Road junction of the N28 and Lower Hilltown. There are also delays in Raffeen Bridge, and at the junction of Sullivan’s Lane and Ballycurreen Road, off the N27 Kinsale Road.

Delays have also been reported at Frankfurt’s Road at Alderbrook, on the R851 in Douglas.

There is also a road closure on a section of roundabout of the N21 between Ardshanbally and Clonunion, Co Limerick.

In the city, there are long delays along the R464 between Farranshone More and Mayorstown.

There are also long delays and very slow moving traffic on the M50 from Rockbrook all the way through Knocklyon, Timon Park and as far as the Red Cow roundabout.

From there, delays and slow moving traffic are affecting the N7 - all the way out to Rathcoole.

Trains to Dublin Houston are experiencing some delays of between two and 12 minutes, including trains from Carlow, Portlaoise, Galway, Cork, Westport, Limerick and Waterford.

Warmth and sunshine in large parts of the country

Weatherwise, although parts of the north and northwest of the country will remain largely cloudy, the rest of Ireland will see spells of sometimes hazy sunshine that will continue to develop through the morning and afternoon over much of Munster and Leinster, and will extend a little bit further northwards and westwards through the day.

According to Met Éireann, highest temperatures will range from 16 to 19 degrees under the cloudier skies in the northwest and west, but generally ranging from 20 to 25 degrees, warmest in the south and east, with temperatures possibly a little higher locally further south.

Winds will be mostly moderate westerly, a little lighter in the south, but fresher in the northwest.
