Garda Commissioner says focus remains on extradition of transnational criminals

Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said the public can expect to see more international police cooperation, following a number of high-profile extraditions to Ireland.

Speaking at the Garda Community Engagement Stand at the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Co Offaly, Mr Kelly said gardaí will continue to target transnational organised crime groups.

Mr Kelly said: “You certainly cannot go to another country, place yourself there, and think that you can damage our communities by flooding them with drugs and firearms.

“So we work really well with our international partners to target these and arrest them, and that’s what we’ve been doing.

“I certainly hope that the public are seeing that. We’re going to continue doing that.

“There’s certainly other people that we’re looking at.”
