Met Éireann issues status orange and yellow warnings with heavy rain due 

The rest of the weekend and into next week will see "mixed conditions". 

Met Éireann has issued status orange and yellow rain warnings for much of the west coast of Ireland for Friday and Saturday.

A status orange warning for Donegal, Galway, and Mayo will come into effect at 1am on Saturday and remain in place until 7am. The three counties will see very heavy and persistent rain with thunderstorms a possibility.

Met Éireann said the impacts include flooding, damage to homes and businesses, disruption and delays to public transport, very difficult travelling conditions, and lightning damage.

Meanwhile, two status yellow rain warnings have been issued for Cork, Kerry, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo.

The warning for Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo will be in place from 9pm on Friday until 9am on Saturday, while the alert for Cork and Kerry will come into effect at 9am on Saturday for a 12-hour period.

The counties under the yellow warnings will see spells of persistent rain, which will turn heavy at times. The impacts include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions, and outdoor events impacted.

The warning for Clare comes as the Irish Open is taking place in the county, at Donald Trump's Doonbeg course.

More generally, Saturday will see rain linger over southern areas for much of the day, while a clearance to scattered showers develops further to the north. Temperatures will reach highs of around 21C.

Met Éireann said "dry and bright periods will be interspersed with wet or showery ones". It will be breezy at times too, while it will begin to turn cooler from Tuesday onwards.
