The country won’t have to wait too much longer to see the return of the sun, but, according to Met Éireann, it isn’t expected to hang around.

With June approaching, we are set to see sunny spells with temperatures reaching highs of 19°C for the bank holiday weekend.

Ireland experienced one of its warmest Mays on record this year, but the past week has seen a return to unsettled conditions.

According to Met Éireann, the remainder of the week will see much of the same with “drier interludes" and "spells of sunshine”.

On Friday, rain is likely to clear eastwards early, with sunshine and scattered showers expected later in the day.

"Saturday will start off mainly dry. Rain will spread eastwards across the country through the morning and early afternoon. The rain will clear during the afternoon with sunshine and showers following for the rest of the day, some heavy in the northwest," said the forecaster.

Temperatures on Saturday could reach 19C, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

Apparently, it will become "very windy later near Atlantic coasts, with strong to gale force and gusty southwest winds developing in the evening and continuing for a time on Saturday night along with further showers or longer spells of rain."

Sunday is expected to be breezy, with a mix of sunshine and showers.

It will be slightly cooler, with highest temperatures of 13C to 17C and gusty westerly winds.

"Bank Holiday Monday will be mainly dry with sunny spells and just a few showers", according to the forecaster.

However, rain will develop in the west by the end of the day and will spread eastwards on Monday night.

Highest temperatures will be 14C to 17C.

"Light to moderate southwest winds will increase moderate to fresh southerly in the evening."
