‘She brought joy to us all’: Tributes to former Limerick mayor

Tributes have poured in for former mayor of Limerick Kathleen Leddin who passed away on Tuesday evening, surrounded by her family in Milford Hospice.

She was the sixth woman to serve in the mayoral role, between 1999 and 2014, when she retired from politics aged 74.

Her son and former Limerick TD Brian Leddin shared a heartfelt tribute to his “resilient mum” on social media.

“My wonderful mother, Kathleen, has left us tonight. We will miss her incredibly," Mr Leddin wrote.

"Mum was an inspiration to me and countless others. She was a brilliant storyteller with a long memory of Limerick City, Donoughmore and Murroe and so many other places that were dear to her. 

"Mum was resilient, smart, adventurous and, above all, one of the kindest and funniest people you could meet. 

She brought joy to us all and gave us immense love. Rest in peace, mum.

Local councillor, Olivia O’Sullivan paid tribute to the former mayor.

“It it sad to hear about the passing of Kathleen Leddin, former mayor of Limerick City, only the sixth woman ever in the role," she wrote.  

"I enjoyed Kathleen’s company whenever we met — whether at city events, the Milk Market, or more locally in the northside. 

"Condolences to son and former Limerick City TD Brian, and all Kathleen’s family."
