Enoch Burke has returned to Wilson's Hospital School in Westmeath, where he used to teach, as it opened after the Christmas holidays.

The teacher had previously been jailed for contempt of court for refusing to abide by a court order directing him to stay away from the school.

It was his third time in jail for the same reason and in total he has spent more than 500 days in Mountjoy since September 2022.

He was released from prison on December 20. Mr Justice David Nolan said on that day he would impose a daily fine of €1,400 on Mr Burke if he breached the court order by returning to the school when it reopened after the school holidays.

The judge said so far Mr Burke owes €193,000 to the State in fines imposed for contempt of court.

According to reports, Mr Burke arrived at the school at about 9.15am.
