A woman aged in her 80s has died after being hit by a car in Co Mayo.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the crash on Glebe Street in Ballinrobe at 4.20pm on Thursday.

The woman was taken to Mayo General Hospital but has since died from her injuries.

A garda spokesperson said they are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

In a statement, An Garda Síochana said: “Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area of the N84/Glebe Street, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo between 3.50pm and 4.50pm on Thursday August 20 2026 are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Claremorris garda station on (094) 9372080, the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.”
