'Crimecall' appeal for information about 2015 murder of man in North Cork
Gardaí are making a renewed appeal for information about the death of Peter Murphy, whose remains were found at his home near Bweeng, Co Cork, in February 2015.
The family of a man murdered in Cork nearly a decade ago are appealing for anyone with information in relation to his death to come forward.
Peter Murphy was found dead by gardaí at his rural home in Shanavoher, between the village of Bweeng and Mallow on September 7, 2015.
He had been living alone at the time and had last spoken to his family two days earlier.
The alarm was raised when a neighbour saw smashed glass at Mr Murphy’s front door.
Gardaí called to the house where they discovered Mr Murphy’s remains.
An autopsy carried out at Cork University Hospital concluded that his death was from injuries inflicted as a result of an assault.
Gardaí launched a murder investigation but no one has ever been brought to justice for Mr Murphy’s murder.
He last seen alive at his home at Shanavoher on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at around 2.30pm.
Mr Murphy’s mother and sister will renew their appeal for his killer to come forward on on RTÉ on Monday night.
Mrs Murphy said he was a “wonderful son and brother” and that she will “fight for justice” for as long as she lives.
And his sister, Tara, remembers him as a “kind, gentle, and caring” brother who always looked out for her.
Gardaí say they believe a small circle of people in the local area may have information that can assist in solving Peter Murphy’s murder.
They are appealing to anyone who has information that could assist the investigation to come forward, and they are asked to contact on 1800 405060, or Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450.
- Crimecall airs on RTÉ One on Monday night at 9.35pm.
