Gardaí have released the body of a man found beaten to death in his Co Cork home to his family and say their investigation into his killing is likely to be “painstaking and take some time.”

The body of Peter Murphy, 36, was found at his rented home at Shanavoher, Bweeng, Co Cork, at around 1.20pm last Saturday.

It has emerged it’s the second violent death in the same townland. In July 1992 a farmer, John Crowley, 38, was shot in the back from close range and then strangled.
