Wet and breezy weather forecast for the coming days

Met Éireann has indicated that the weather will become more unsettled as next week progresses with wet and breezy conditions forecast.

A band of rain developing in the west on Sunday will track across the country overnight. Clear spells and scattered showers will follow, most of these in Ulster and north Connacht. 

The lowest temperatures will be in the region of 5C to 9C in a moderate to fresh west to south west wind.

Monday

Monday will start off mostly dry with hazy sunny spells. Met Éireann forecasts that it will become cloudier during the afternoon and patches of light rain or drizzle will develop in the west and south west in the evening.

“Highest temperatures of 10C to 13C in a light to moderate west to southwest wind, becoming southerly and freshening in the west by evening.” 

Monday night will be dry for most with a mix of cloud and clear spells and just a few patches of light rain or drizzle. Later in the night, a band of more persistent rain will push into the northwest with lowest temperatures of 7C to 9C.

Tuesday

It will turn wet for most areas on Tuesday morning as rain in the north west extends across much of the country, reaching the southeast in the early afternoon. It will also be breezy with fresh and gusty southwesterly winds.

Drier, brighter, and colder conditions along with easing winds will follow from the north west, reaching most areas by the evening though rain will persist for southern areas. Highest temperatures of 10C to 13C are forecast.

Rain will return from the southwest on Tuesday night turning heavy in places as it extends to all areas through the night with lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.

Wednesday

There will be widespread rain at first on Wednesday clearing eastwards through the morning. It will become drier for a time before sunshine and showers of longer spells of rain push in from the west during the afternoon.

Highest temperatures are expected to be in the region of 10C to 14C before turning colder from the north west. Further showers or spells of rain will continue to move in from the west overnight. It will be colder than of late with temperatures falling to between 1C and 5C.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday will be a much cooler day with sunshine and showers or longer spells of rain, most persistent over the western half of the country, possibly turning wintry at times. Highest temperatures of 5C to 8C are forecast in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

A showery day is expected for Friday with spells of rain moving in from the west during the weekend. Highest temperatures generally ranging from 7C to 10C.
