Peter McVerry Trust has announced Niall Mulligan as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Mulligan will take over the role after the previous CEO tendered his resignation in October after just over four months in the position.
Francis Doherty tendered his resignation to the board of directors against the backdrop of a statutory investigation into financial and governance issues at the organisation.
South Dublin County Council chief executive Danny McLoughlin has held the position of interim CEO for the past three months.
Chair of Peter McVerry Trust (PMVT) Deirdre-Ann Barr said Mr Mulligan has demonstrated a clear commitment to human rights and social justice.
Currently, Mr Mulligan is the National Secretary of the Society of St Vincent de Paul and has been working in the charity sector since 1990.
He has previously held senior positions in the Simon Communities, HIV Ireland, and Samaritans Ireland.
Mr Mulligan has worked in the areas of homelessness, addiction, justice, HIV and sexual health, suicide prevention, and poverty.
He will take up the position of CEO in mid-April.
Last month, PMVT was warned that it may be compelled to appear before the Oireachtas housing committee after it previously declined an invite.
It said it would be inappropriate to appear to answer questions on financial issues at the charity as two investigations are underway.
Before Christmas, the Government agreed to give a bailout worth €15m to the charity on the condition of reform in the organisation.
The charity had said it was experiencing cash flow pressures.
The Charities Regulator and the Approved Housing Bodies Regulatory Authority both appointed inspectors to carry out separate investigations into financial and governance matters at the trust.
