Luas drivers finish eleventh day of strike

Luas drivers have gone on strike for an eleventh day in the ongoing dispute over pay.

Up to 100,000 people have been affected by today's stoppage by tram drivers.

Several more days of action are planned for later this month and next.

However representatives from both Siptu the union who represent the drivers, and Transdev the company who run the Tram say they are willing to go into fresh talks

"One option we should consider is the traditional one, face-to-face conversations to see if we can solve it ourselves, we were able to resolve it ourselves with the other three grades."

A survey by iReach Insights about the Luas dispute confirms that more commuters are blaming the role of SIPTU in the dispute.

28% of people think SIPTU and Luas drivers are equally at fault in the Luas pay dispute (up from 24% in February).

Down from 31% in February, in May only 10% of very frequent users think it is the Luas drivers only who are at fault while 10% of them attribute it to Luas/Transdev Management (down from 20% in February).

Up from 7% in February, in May 20% of very frequent users say SIPTU and drivers are both at fault.
