Oxfam Ireland’s Jim Clarken looks for end of tax havens in wake of Panama Papers scandal

The latest release from the Panama Papers, shows tax evasion on an industrial scale, according to Oxfam Ireland.

The charity is urging governments to stamp out the use of tax havens and offshore companies by the world's super-rich.

Millions of files relating to offshore firms were put online last night by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

The database contains the names of hundreds of off-shore firms with addresses in Ireland, or with Irish links.

Oxfam Ireland Chief Executive Jim Clarken has said the world's poorest people are among those losing out.

“About €150bn is lost in tax to developing countries governments every single year and lost to this country and developed countries in wealthy parts of the world as well,” said Clarken.

“So this is a problem that has real human impact across the world.”
