Woman's body recovered from River Shannon
The body of a pensioner has been recovered from the River Shannon.
The woman, in her 70s, was reported missing last night at approximately 11pm.
The woman's car was discovered parked at a well-known beauty spot next to the river, at the end of the Mill Road, Corbally, Limerick.
A major air, land and water search for the woman was carried out involving, the Shannon-based Coast Guard rescue helicopter; Limerick City & County Fire Service; Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, and the Limerick Land Search Team.
The woman's body was spotted around 2.25am by the Limerick Land Search Team, and immediately recovered by specially trained swift water rescue personnel attached to the fire service.
Gardaí have ruled out foul play.
The woman's body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem.
A source described it as "a personal tragedy".
The matter will be referred to the office of the Limerick City Coroner for an inquest at a later date.
