Public do not want another election says Michael McGrath

A senior figure in Fianna Fáil has said the party does not want to face into another election.

Cork TD Michael McGrath admits there is a frustrating vacuum at the moment - but has said we have a fractured political system.

He said Fianna Fáil will continue to try and build support with Independents and smaller parties to have Micheál Martin elected Taoiseach on April 6th.

Deputy McGrath says Fine Gael has made it clear they do not want to talk to Fianna Fail until after then: “So I don’t believe spending €20-30m on another election is what people want.

“I think people want those that have been elected, all of those who have been elected, to work out a solution to current political impasse.

“And there certainly is a political vacuum at the moment, it is frustrating for the Irish people, it is frustrating for myself and indeed others that have been elected.”
