11 people died in building related accidents in 2015

Concerns are being raised about the level of fatalities on small construction sites in Ireland.

New figures from the Health and Safety Authority show 11 people died in building related accidents in 2015.

The Construction Industry Federation says excluding smaller projects from new regulations - means safety standards are not as high on these sites.

The majority of those who lost their lives were on domestic sites - something CIF's Tom Parlon says is concerning.

"The fact that these once off houses are being left out, I think means that there's likely, and dangerously likely, to be less quality and particularly less health and safety standards on those sites.

"So we would certainly call again on the government, as we have objected to it all along, to reverse this opt-out clause that all building now would come under the new regulations."
