Irish Armenian community to remember 100 year anniversary of genocide

The Armenian community in Ireland will bless a cross in memory of those who died in the 1915 atrocities at Christ Church Cathedral this afternoon.

The service will be attended by the Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin and Armenian Primate Bishop Hovakim Manukyan.

This year marks 100 years since the murder of over one million Armenians.

Doctor Paul Manook organised the event and he has said many other nationalities were killed too: “The Armenians was the biggest proportion of it nearly 85%, but also there was Syrian, Greek, they were also killed.

“Majority were Armenian, a million and a half and it was well cleansed from that area.

“They were very populated in that area, Armenians, but today you don’t find them.”
