Document written by the late Garda Golden made public

A document written by the late Garda Tony Golden has been made public.

Today a community group in the Cooley Peninsula in Co. Louth released the handwritten statement given to them by Garda Golden in 2013, who was shot dead earlier this month.

In it, Garda Golden raised a number of concerns about the lack of police resources in the Dundalk district and voiced the fears of his colleagues that the overtime that had been made available for the murder investigation into Garda Adrian Donohoe in 2013 would not be continued into 2014.

Chairman of the Cooley Peninsula Community Alert Group is Johnny Larkin, who says: "Yes, well, after the brutal murder of Garda Adrian Donohoe, we approached our local representatives at councillor level and then at TD level, after a period of time we got our way to ministerial level, Minister Shatter.

"Concerns were the dwindling numbers of Gardaí in our area, and at the time they were closing Garda stations in our area, and we suggested that it was possible that this could possibly happen again because of the dwindling numbers."
