Death of Limerick man during burglary at his home 'a tragic case', says Garda Commissioner

The Garda Commissioner has today expressed her sympathies to the family of a Limerick man who died following a break-in at his house last month.

Noirin O’Sullivan said that the death of carpenter John O’Donoghue was a "tragic" case.

She says rural areas "are not alone", despite growing concern about the number of burglaries in isolated communities.

Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan said that the new garda recruitment campaign will help to prevent break-ins.

"The first thing I would like to do is extend my sympathies to the O'Donoghue family," she said,

"It was a very tragic case and certainly, as I have said, I am absolutely delighted that this year we already have seen 300 gardaí who have come out of training from the Garda College in Templemore."
