Paul Murphy summonsed to court charged with false imprisonment of the Tánaiste

Socialist TD Paul Murphy has been served with a summons to appear in court in relation to the alleged false imprisonment of the Tánaiste Joan Burton.

Several others, including Dublin councillors Kieran Mahon and Mick Murphy, have also been ordered to attend court.

At around 11.30am this morning, Paul Murphy was served with a summons at his office.

In it, the Socialist TD is advised that a complaint has been made against him that on November 15 2014 at Fortunestown Road, Jobstown, Tallaght, Dublin 24, he falsely imprisoned Joan Burton contrary to Section 15 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the State Act.

Anti-Austerity Alliance Councillors Kieran Mahon and Mick Murphy were served with summonses last night and it is understood at least 10 others have also been ordered to attend court in relation to various complaints, with more summonses due to be delivered throughout the day.

Last month, the DPP decided to pursue criminal charges against 27 people.

Just under half of those are due to face false imprisonment charges, while the others will be charged with criminal damage or violent disorder.

The adults will appear before Dublin District Court on November 2, while the juveniles have been ordered to appear before the Children’s Court on October 29.
