Anti-bloodsport group to demonstrate at Dublin Airport against bullfighting
The Irish Council Against Bloodsports is appealing to Irish holidaymakers to avoid bull fights when travelling this summer.
Bullfighting takes place in parts of Portugal, the South of France and Spain, and the organisation claims the events are largely dependent on tourists attending them.
It is holding a demonstration at Dublin Airport today calling on travellers to take in other sights while on holiday.
"It's tourist receipts that keep the bullfight going. If tourists don't go, there'll be no bullfighting. It'll just fade away," said spokesperson Aideen Yourell. "We're trying to get our Irish tourists to please stay way from the bullfights."
She said people had no idea of the "level of cruelty" where "an animal is tortured to death for entertainment purposes."
