Insurance issues force cancellation of Cork family fun day

A major family fun-day which was due to take place in Cork's newest public park this Sunday has been cancelled at the last minute.
City officials have this evening blamed insurmountable insurance issues for the decision to pull the plug on the event at Tramore Valley Park, the city's remediated landfill on the Kinsale Road.
The new park has hosted public events in the past but it is understood that new insurance issues emerged in recent days.
Last-ditch negotiations this afternoon, which took place between the various insurance companies involved in a bid to save the event, failed.
The city council had hoped to use the event to showcase the potential of the new park.
A new BMX track was also due to open as part of the event, which was being organised by Bishopstown and District Lions Club in association with Cork City Council, to raise funds for the Cork Penny Dinners and other Lions Club charities.

A council spokesperson said he was extremely disappointed to have to postpone the event but he said organisers simply ran out of time to resolve the insurance issues.
Efforts will begin on Monday to resolve the insurance difficulties and the event will be rearranged for a later date in the summer.
