Sinn Féin hosts wages conference on 'working poor'
Sinn Féin are today hosting a conference on workers' wages.
The event will feature talks and discussions with trade unions, interest groups, and NGOs.
An MEP from the Greek left-wing Syriza party - who recently won a General Election in the country - will also address the meeting this morning.
The conference is being organised by Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane in Dublin.
Senator David Cullinane says low wages and income levels have a negative impact on people's quality of life.
"We don’t believe it's sustainable that we can build an economy on low pay," he said today.
"There's many people who are characterised as the working poor - who put in a week's work but can't afford to pay basic bills, don't have access to public services, and don't have the quality of life that they should have."
