Irish tourist critical after being punched by own brother in Australia

An Irish tourist has been left in a critical condition in Australia after allegedly being hit by his own brother.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald the 32-year-old man was struck in the head in the Kings Cross area of Sydney at 3am on Saturday (4pm Friday Irish time).

The Commander of Kings Cross Police Superintendent, Michael Fitzgerald, said the brothers and their father were on holiday from Ireland.

The attack took place in the popular night club district of the city, and police have been quick to point out it has nothing to with early closing times for pubs.

The police chief said: “These are two brothers who got into an argument. Tragically one brother punched the other and caused him to fall to the ground”.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the alleged assault.
