Chef describes hospital food as 'inedible'

A Michelin-starred chef is criticising Irish hospital food.

Oliver Dunne, who runs the Bon Appetit and Cleaver East restaurants, says from his experience the food served to patients is often inedible.

Mr Dunne says he has seen plenty of hospital meals in recent years as his wife has had health problems.

He said it is not good enough to feed sick people this kind of food.

He said: "You know it can be a little ice-cream scoop of mashed potato that is completely dry and horrible, and then there would be some sort of peas on your plate that would be completely dehydrated, and then a slice of meat again that is dry.

"It is just very unappetising for people in hospital who are trying to recover and get well and strong.

"This food comes up time and time again and sometimes it's inedible."
