Gender pay gap getting wider in Ireland

The gap between pay for men and women in Ireland is widening, according to new figures for 2012 published today by the EU.

The figures show men are now paid an average of 14.4% more than women.

That is an increase of 1.8% since 2008.

Today is Europe Equal Pay Day which aims to highlight the difference in pay between men and women.

Ciara Eustace of the EU office in Dublin says in real terms, Irish women work almost two months for free before matching their male counterparts.
