Elderly sisters targeted in Donegal raid

A cross-border manhunt is under way after two elderly sisters were targeted by a gang who robbed their home.

The women, aged 91 and 89, were attacked at their farmhouse at Feddyglass, between Raphoe and Lifford, in Co Donegal, close to the border.

Up to three men are said to have ransacked the house at 5pm yesterday and knocked the younger sister to the ground. She was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital with a suspected broken hip.

Gardaí said they are keen to trace a UK registered silver Ford Focus which was in the area at the time of the incident carrying three men.

A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said officers in Strabane have been contacted by gardaí, who have given them all the information about the incident.

“We are assisting every way possible,” he added.

The crime took place just a few miles from the border with Tyrone.

A spate of aggravated burglaries have been carried out on older people across the county in recent months, including on a 96-year-old woman punched and gagged in her home near Buncrana in January.

Within days a 78-year-old was pushed to the ground while her rural home was ransacked for the second time in two months.

Similar attacks have also happened in Raphoe, Donegal town and Convoy.
