Football legend sets off on Cork to Galway walk
Football legend Ronnie Whelan sets off on a walk from Cork to Galway this morning, to raise awareness and funds for the Myasthenia Gravis Association.
The autoimmune disease affects around 500 people in Ireland.
It affects the nerve signals to the muscles, and symptoms include chronic muscle fatigue and difficulty breathing.
Ronnie said he became aware of the condition when his daughter became ill.
"My daughter was diagnose with Myasthenia when she was seventeen years of age," he said.
"It took a long time for it to be diagnosed, she was falling over a lot of the time
"We didn't really know what was wrong with her and the doctors didn't really know
"I thought I would get involved with the organisation to try and raise awareness more than anything in Ireland for people who are suffering with it."
