'Maybe I should have been clearer,' Varadkar on personal insolvency confusion
The Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar has apologised for saying anything that contradicts the Government's position on childcare costs and personal insolvency.
Earlier this week, The Irish Examiner reported Minister Varadkar as saying that childcare costs will have to be taken into account in insolvency arrangements if the outlay is preventing parents from making mortgage repayments.
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny was forced to clarify the Government's position on the issue yesterday, saying no one will be asked to give up their job if they are paying more for childcare than they are earning.
Speaking this morning, Minister Varadkar said Mr Kenny's position is correct, and apologised if he indicated anything to the contrary.
Mr Varadakar said: "He is absolutely right, it is what I said on Tuesday, maybe I should have repeated it, maybe I should have been clearer and I am sorry if I said anything that was contradictory.
"What I said on Tuesday, is what the Taoiseach said yesterday, is that nobody is going to be asked to give up their job, or career.
"No man, no woman will be asked to give up their job or career to enter a personal insolvency arrangement, and that is absolutely the case and I am happy to clarify that."
