Gardaí examine explosives found near railway line
Two viable explosive devices found in the vicinity of the rail line in Athy, Co Kildare last night are being forensically examined.
The alarm was raised at 3pm yesterday. Train services had to be suspended for a short period of time whilst some houses had to be evacuated.
The devices were disabled by the Army Bomb Disposal Team and the area was declared safe at 7.20pm.
Just two weeks ago, an improvised explosive device was made safe in the same area of Athy, by means of a controlled explosion.
The remains of the IEDs found are being forensically examined by the Garda Technical Unit.
