Gardaí warn of tight restrictions for Marlay Park gigs

Gardaí have warned concert-goers that tight restrictions will be in place at three concerts due to take place at Marlay Park in Dublin next week.

175 officers will marshal the events along with Garda sniffer dogs who will be used to track down anyone who tries to bring drugs into next weekend's David Guetta concert., with 135,000 people expected to attend.

The series of gigs will be headlined by Kasabian, David Guetta and Van Morrison.

It's understood that both that Gardaí and MCD are keen not to see a repeat of the high level of violent disorder witnessed at a gig in the Phoenix Park on July 7, where more than 30 people were arrested.

"We are conscious of that fact that people have responsibilities and parents also have responsibilities," Superintendent Peter Duffy of Tallaght Garda station said.

"If you have a child coming to the concert, there is a responsibility on you to ensure that the child comes in a fashion that they can enjoy the concert and go home in a peaceful manner."

Security numbers will be confirmed over the next few days but MCD boss Denis Desmond is confident they’ll be ready and he’s reminding people that it just takes a few to ruin the vent for everyone.
