Phoenix Park site 'could save €210m' in Children's Hospital costs

A new proposal to build the National Children's Hospital at the Phoenix Park Racecourse could save the State €210m in building costs.

Dublin-based firm Flynn and O'Flaherty estimates its plan would cost €440m overall, compared to the €650m for the rejected Mater Hospital development.

The proposed eight-acre site, which has full planning permission for up to nine storeys, has been submitted to the Health Minister James Reilly and the hospital review group.

A spokesperson for Flynn and O'Flaherty, Denis Doherty, has said the site has important planning and structural advantages over other proposals.
