Gardaí expected to launch murder probe in Kerry

Gardaí are expected to launch a murder investigation after a post mortem examination carried out on the body of man in Co. Kerry found that he had sustained a number of injuries.

The 58-year-old's body was discovered at the scene of a house fire near Kilorglin in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It is understood that the results of the post-mortem carried out by the Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster show that the man had sustained a number of injuries that were not consistent with a house fire.

A Garda technical team travelled to Kerry from Dublin last night to carry out a forensic examination of the scene at the man's home in Ardraw, in Beaufort near Killorglin town.

Officers are trying to establish the man's last movements - he is known to have been driven home at around midnight by a taxi travelling from Kilorglin.

It is understood the man lived alone in the property.

Anyone who may have have been in the area between 11pm on Wednesday and 2am on Thursday morning is asked to contact the Gardaí at Cahirciveen.
