Priory Hall residents refuse 'laughable' council offer

Residents of Priory Hall in Dublin have described as "laughable" a proposal by Dublin City Council to buy them out for €50,000.

Residents, who were evacuated over safety concerns in October, were told that the Council was considering buying the 100 privately-owned aparments.

Another suggestion would see the Council rent the apartments from owners for a ten-year period.

The proposals were made at a private meeting.

Many of the residents have outstanding mortgages of up to €350,000 and would not be in a position to sell for such a small amount.

Spokesman for the group Niall O'Reilly has said Dublin City Council's offer is far too low.
