IDA creates 13,000 jobs in 2011

More than 13,000 jobs were created by multi-national companies in Ireland last year, according to the IDA.

Figures published this morning also show that the number of jobs lost in foreign companies during the same period has decreased, leaving a net increase of more than 6,000 in Government-supported jobs.

The jobs minister Richard Bruton has also announced the creation of 120 new jobs in the areas of software and language translation.

The IDA figures also showed that the State agency won a record total of 148 investments, up 17% on the previous year, with 61 new companies investing in Ireland for the first time, a rise of 30% on 2010.

They said that €115bn, or more than 70%, of Irish exports came from IDA-client companies who also paid more than 70% of Corporation Tax in Ireland.

The numbers also showed that IDA client companies spend €19bn in the Irish economy and paid €6.9 billion in wages.

Up to 100 positions will be created in Workday which provides human resources, payroll and financial management services.

Elsewhere, 20 jobs will be created in CETRA, a language translation service based in Limerick.
