Man threw woman over top rail of Dublin bus
A heavily intoxicated woman was thrown over the top railing of a double decker bus after becoming involved in violent row with another group of passengers, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.
Conor Kenny (aged 20) of Cromlech Fields, Ballybrack received a suspended sentence for his part in the incident. He pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Frascati Road, Blackrock on October 31, 2009.
Garda Ronan Kennedy told Mr Damian Colgan BL, prosecuting, that Kennyâs victim had drank a large amount of alcohol and got sick on the top deck of a Dublin bus travelling through Blackrock into the city centre.
Gda Kennedy agreed with Mr Colgan that the woman was âworse for wearâ.
A group of passengers started laughing and âslaggingâ her and she threw a plastic bottle of water at them.
CCTV footage from the bus showed that the woman then went over to the group and became involved in a physical struggle.
The court heard that after she kicked another person in the back Kennyâs girlfriend started fighting with her.
When the woman threw a punch at Kennyâs girlfriend, Kenny grabbed her and pulled her over the upper barrier of the stairwell. She then went head first over the barrier and landed downstairs. The court heard she suffered âbumps and bruisesâ as a result of the fall.
Mr Michael Bowman BL, defending, said his client was âsickenedâ by his actions and offered âŹ400 to the victim as a gesture of his remorse.
Judge Martin Nolan imposed a suspended sentence of six months.
