PSNI reject SF criticism in Kerr murder probe

The PSNI has rejected criticism from Sinn Féin over the length of the detention of three men arrested over the murder of Constable Ronan Kerr in Omagh.

The PSNI has been granted a number of extensions to question the suspects, who are aged 26, 33 and 40.

Earlier, Sinn Féin issued a press release saying it was "not acceptable" to hold people for periods beyond human rights best practice.

In response, the PSNI has said that when investigating any crime they will use "all legal means available and do so in compliance with European Human Rights legislation".

Twenty-five--year-old Constable Kerr died when a booby-trap bomb exploded under his car in Omagh two weeks ago today.

Sinn Féin's policing spokesman Alex Maskey says if no evidence exists against the detainees, they should be released.
