The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland has today called for the Government's planned new public broadcasting charge, to replace the TV licence fee, to also fund independent radio stations.

It has also demanded sufficient funding from the charge to be made available for RTÉ Radio 1 to allow it operate as a commercial-free full public service broadcaster.
