Investigation launched over 'pockmarked' Baldonnel Aerodrome
An investigation is underway following overnight damage to a runway at Baldonnel Aerodrome.
Gardaí and the Military Police are investigating the incident.
Prior to the departure of aircraft involved in the ongoing search for the two missing fishermen off the east coast, a routine inspection of the two runways at Baldonnell was carried out.
Airport personnel observed a number of pock marks on one of the runways and closed it immediately.
Flight schedules have not been affected and the second runway remains open.
A full review of security at the military airbase has also been launched.
