Dumbrell brothers trial enters closing stages
The jury in the trial of two Dublin brothers accused of murdering a man in Inchicore five years ago, has begun hearing closing speeches at the Central Criminal Court.
Warren and Jeffrey Dumbrell of Emmet Place, Inchicore deny murdering Christy Cawley in October 2006.
Yesterday, one of the brothers told the Court he stabbed the victim in the leg, but had not intended to kill him.
On the ninth day of the trial, the prosecution began wrapping up the case against Warren and Jeffrey Dumbrell.
The jury was told the killing of Christy Cawley was "totally unjustified", that the two brothers had chased the father-of-six, and when he fell on the ground, ignored screams to stop and stabbed him to death.
Prosecution counsel said CCTV played during the trial showed the victim literally running for his life.
Christy Cawley was stabbed six times, with one of the wounds entering the back of his thigh and coming out the other side.
The trial heard evidence one of the men told the victim's daughter: "Your daddy's gone now".
The prosecutions says if that is the case they were not the words of someone who had acted in self defence, they were cold heartless words said to a young girl.
