Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy riding an e-scooter was seriously injured in an incident in north Dublin on Tuesday afternoon.

The teenager was found with serious injuries on Greencastle Road in Coolock shortly after 4pm and was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital.

Gardaí said his condition is understood to be serious.

The scene was examined by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road has since reopened.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was travelling on Greencastle Road and may have camera or dashcam footage, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coolock Garda Station on 01 666 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

It comes as new e-scooter laws are planned to come into effect by the end of this month following a significant uptick in incidents involving the transport.

The new laws will raise the minimum age of e-scooter users from 16 to 18, mandate helmets and high-visibility clothing, and increase fees for fixed charge notices and the release of detained scooters.

The latest international analysis shows e-scooter users are three times more likely to suffer brain injuries than motorcyclists.

CHI Temple Street recently confirmed 30 children were admitted to emergency departments with e-scooter-related traumatic brain injuries between May 2024 and June 2026. At least seven more have been admitted since.

Meanwhile, seizures of e-scooters have also ramped up.

Gardaí confiscated 1,412 e-scooters in the first half of this year compared to 931 in the whole of 2025 and 310 in 2024.
